I am sure that many of your parents/grandparents had one of these Cosco Step Stool Chairs in their home. I know mine did! I absolutely LOVE these chairs and recently found 2 of them at a thrift store to redo. I paid $7 for this chair! I just finished the first one. Here it is...

It definitely did not look like this when I bought it, but the makeover was super easy!
Here is what it looked like before I bought it...
I know, it is pretty ugly and it was even uglier in person! The first thing I did was tape up all of the chrome for the spray painting.
I spray painted it a burgundy red color and then recovered the seat. I couldn't decide if I wanted to make a slip cover to wash or just put vinyl on it. I decided to go with the vinyl when I found some iron-on vinyl at Joann's. It was super easy to use and to handle. I just followed the instructions on the vinyl.
After using some glue, material and trim on the seat, it was done!

I absolutely love how it turned out! Now I just need to do the other one.

Perfect! My parents have one now that our 6 year old son uses when at their house, and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
I had one of those as a "booster seat" when I was little, but my little brother eventually broke the seat off. It would be so awesome to find one for my daughter now. Great job on the makeover!
Oh man, I miss the step-stool we used to have like this one! Love your 'make-over' - I will have to see about replacing ours to use as a perfect seat for the grandbabies! Love your site = *follow*

To brighten the chrome, use some Bar Keeper's Friend. It made mine look brand new!!

Hi! I have a similar cosco step stooland I'm in the process of redoing it. I have a question. How did you get the cushion off the metal frame to recover it? I can't find any screws. Does it pop out? Thanks!
