Stockings Week-Brittany

Ok I know I am always the last to get around to the blog to post, but here I am.  Growing up I remember navel oranges too, and toothbrushes.  Sometimes socks and underwear.  My favorite memory is helping my mom put out the stockings and sticking my hand in my stocking and finding an old chocolate candy or holiday eraser from the year before.  I would get so excited.  It makes me get excited right now just thinking about it.  Maybe I will go check my stocking.

My kids gets also get an orange, toothbrush and crazy socks.  (My husbands likes crazy socks).

Stockings Week- Our Parents

Here are our original stockings that we had as little girls. Our mom made these starting in 1980 to 1992. 

The girl names are embroidered in Green and the boys in Red.

 They are hanging in the front room in the window strung on a piece of twine.

I asked my Mom what her favorite things to Give in our stockings were Oranges, Nuts and a Candy Bar.

Her favorite things to Receive as a child were Oranges and Candy. 

I asked my Dad what he got when he was little and he said that he would always get the Old Fashioned Christmas Candy, Oranges, and Nuts.

Guess the tradition lives on through generations...

Stockings Week - Briana

Welcome to Stockings Week here at Babblings and More! 

Each of us sisters are going to post the stockings we use!

 

 Over the years, I have made my stockings.  I used the same pattern that our Mom used on the stockings that we grew up with.  I thought that it was funny when I married Ben, that his Mom used the same pattern for their stockings as well! 

I have a huge mirror in my entry way.  I decided to hang our stockings there.  They are pretty heavy, so I hope they stay!  ;)

 

I wish I could remember what stocking belongs to who.  But that's why I had kids...to remember all of the things that I forget!  ;)

Our Mom was clever enough to cross stitch all of our names on our stockings growing up.  I don't think I will get around to doing that for awhile...

Like my sisters, I too remember getting a navel orange in our stockings each year.  I also remember one Christmas, each one of the girls received perfume in there as well.  

In our home, every Christmas morning, we find navel oranges in our stockings as well.  We also find some candy and a mechanical toothbrush.  Random, I know, but my boys always look forward to it and I find them mentioning it every year.  Funny!
