Homemade Mod Podge

A few months ago I found a recipe for Homemade Mod Podge and wanted to know if it was worth the mess to make it. YES it is, with no mess! A pint size jar cost me $2 to make while at stores a size like this is around $8. It was even worth putting a label on it. Heres how I did it.

Put a strip of masking/packing tape directly on your jar so that you can take it off later easier.

Stick the sticker label on the tape.

Tape over the label so that it will be semi-waterproof.

Mod Podge in a Pint Jar (matte)

Fill jar half way up with white glue (like Elmers)

Then fill jar up with water.

Shake Well.

This is a 50-50 mixture glue/water.

It will have a Matte finish.

If you would like a Glossy finish, add 1 TBS of clear varnish.

Shake it!

If you have tried it with the varnish, we would love to hear how it went.  Did you use an oil based varnish or a water based?  And what one worked better?  Since this is a water based solution, I'm thinking that a water based varnish will work better.  We are always open to new ideas!

Disclaimer:  If you are wanting to do a long term or permanent project, the original Mod Podge may work better since they do  add additional ingredients that make the finish last longer.  The glue solution may yellow over time.  This is just a substitution, not a replacement.

Scripture Dots

I was asked to put some vinyl on our Primary's Scripture Dots jar. 

All these little pom-poms are used for a reason.  Every week we ask the children if they read their scriptures every day for the past week.  If they do, then they get to add a pom-pom to the jar.  All the kids love it and get so excited to add to the jar!

The jar was simply decorating, with ribbon glued around the jar.   And the vinyl added the finishing touch!  

I'm thinking about using the same method to encourage my kids to do other things...

Easy Homemade Bread

3 cups of warm water

1 Tbs. of yeast (be sure the yeast is good)

1/3 cup of sugar/honey

1/3 cup of oil

1 Tbs of salt

6 1/2 cups of flour

Mix it together

Let rise for an hour

Punch the risen dough down

Gently Knead the dough

Grease 2 Bread pans

Shape the dough in loaf shaped mounds

Place in pans

Let Rise for 1 hr

Gently place the pans in the oven together and Bake at 350 for 35 min

There ya go! Easy huh?...Let me know what you think.

Step Stool Chair Makeover

I recently redid this makeover.  Check out the new makeover HERE!

I am sure that many of your parents/grandparents had one of these Cosco Step Stool Chairs in their home.  I know mine did!  I absolutely LOVE these chairs and recently found 2 of them at a thrift store to redo.  I paid $7 for this chair!  I just finished the first one.   Here it is...

It definitely did not look like this when I bought it, but the makeover was super easy!

Here is what it looked like before I bought it...

I know, it is pretty ugly and it was even uglier in person!  The first thing I did was tape up all of the chrome for the spray painting.

I spray painted it a burgundy red color and then recovered the seat.  I couldn't decide if I wanted to make a slip cover to wash or just put vinyl on it.  I decided to go with the vinyl when I found some iron-on vinyl at Joann's.  It was super easy to use and to handle.  I just followed the instructions on the vinyl.

After using some glue, material and trim on the seat, it was done!

I absolutely love how it turned out!  Now I just need to do the other one.

Families are Forever Wall

I have been wanting to put my kids pictures on the wall for quite some time now.  I ordered my pictures from a company online that I love!  It's called AdoramaPix.  I always order my prints on Metallic Paper, and they always look great!  Once you go metallic, you will never go back!

I used my Silhouette SD to cut out some vinyl: Families are Forever.  I'm thinking about adding a flourish design to the empty corners, but haven't done that yet.

I had an extra picture frame, so I found this printable of the Family Proclamation.

I printed it out and then added a fourish that my Silhouette cut out in the lower right hand corner, but you could add anything there.
It worked out perfect and added that finishing touch!
