Honey Butter

My seven year old boy has a love of cooking.  About once or twice a week he will ask me if he can make dinner.  And when he asks, he already knows what he wants to make.  

This week he wanted to make chicken noodle soup with rolls and his famous honey butter.  And he wants to do it all by himself.  I just hang around to answer questions, clean a little bit and offer suggestions.  :)  And I will have to say, he made one good dinner that we all ate up!

Honey Butter

1/2 cup of soften butter

1/3 cup honey

1/2 cup powered sugar

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Cream all ingredients together for a minute or two until nice and fluffy.  

(We used a stand up mixer.)

Serve at room temperature over some warm rolls.

VT- General Conference Gifts

I am not very good at visiting teaching unless I have something to give my sisters.  I usually just print out a little handout or make cookies.  This month I decided make something for them for General Conference.  I didn't know what until I saw THIS post.  I loved the idea, so here it is...

Crafty Meets Medical

Yesterday I noticed some unusual stitching on my throw pillows that belong in our family room.

There were actually two of the pillow that had this stitching on it.

Hmmm...  I thought that my sweet little boys are trying to be crafty.  They just love their mother so much that they are trying to be like me...

 

And then I took a closer look...

This wasn't stitching from my boys!  

It was from my husband!

I just had to laugh because while I was out of town this past weekend, my husband (who is an OB/GYN resident) was practicing his surgical knots on my pillows!  Probably while watching some documentary.  Haha!  So I guess even doctors have to be a little crafty...

French Pancakes

This goes great with the previous Homemade Maple Syrup Recipe that I posted earlier.

French Pancakes

1 C. Flour
1/2 C. Sugar
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1 Egg
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Milk

Mix all the ingredients together. Do not over stir or else you will have tough pancakes. Cook on a hot oiled griddle turning once to brown both sides. Serve with warm Maple Syrup.


To make a crepe like batter, add 1/2 C. more milk for a thinner batter.
Fill with jam or fresh fruit and creme cheese. Roll the pancake around filling and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Makes 8 - 12 pancakes

DIY- Temple Pictures

In General Conference back in April, President Monson quoted President Spencer W. Kimball when he said, “It would be a fine thing if … parents would have in every bedroom in their house a picture of the temple so their children from the time they are infants could look at the picture every day until it becomes a part of their lives. When they reach the age that they need to make the very important decision (concerning going to the temple), it will have already been made.”

I have been wanting to get some Temple pictures in my children's room, but I kept putting it off. I found this awesome blog HERE that had tons of free temple pictures with the saying, "I'm going there someday" on them. They are super cute pictures! I had to hurry and do them because I wanted to do them before next General Conference, so here they are...

I did the Salt Lake Temple for my daughters room.

And the Lubbock Temple for my sons.

Here is how they are done...

Step one- Get your wood cut to the right dimensions. I used a 11x14 poster from Walmart- so I cut the boards to 11 1/2 x 14 1/2.

Step 2- Sand the board down to get ready for the paint.

Step 3- Paint

Step 4- Put Mod Podge all over the front of the board (where the picture is going). You want it pretty thick so the picture will stick good, without bubbles.

Step 5- Put picture on the board and get all the bubbles out from underneath it. I used a spatula and it worked great!

Step 6- Put the Mod Podge all over the front of the picture. I did about 4-5 coats.

Let it dry and your done!

Lace and Denim Skirt

A quick and simple project that will be used daily...well, this little girl wishes it could be worn daily, but mom insists on washing clothes. :)

 I have a whole box full of jeans that look like this:

This is what happens when you have 5 boys right in a row...We would go through jeans like they were going out of style!  I just couldn't part with them because I knew that they would come in handy for some fun projects!  So I went to my trusty Jean Box and pull out these babies!

 First, cut off the legs.

Now, lay them flat and use your scissors to make them even.

I had a piece of large lace that was lying around with my material.  Just pin your right sides together and sew!  I finished it off with a hem stitch.

A cute little girl who loves skirts, boots and horses! 

She found a pair of her brother's old boots that are too small for him and has now claimed them as her own!  She wears these boots everywhere! 

I just wish I could look as cute as that!

Old Window: Backyard Treatment

Here is the first project done with the old windows. 

Such a simple project with outstanding results!  Doesn't it just make the whole atmosphere of the backyard quaint and cozy?  I love it!

The kids loved helping with this project!  Filling the canning jars with rocks was just the right job!

They were great helpers putting the flowers in the jars!

Here is the great work they did!  

Here is the finished product...

So easy and fun, with such dramatic results!

The twine is used to hold the jars to the fence.  It is wrapped around the wood slats and then around the jar and the bow finishes and holds it all together.

This really transforms the backyard into a place to relax!

Old Windows!

The other day I bought 6 old windows for $5 a piece.  My husband thought I was nuts when he walked into the garage and saw 6 old windows... They are all really neat because they each had so much character and are all different sizes.  I have several projects in mind...  Check back to see what I am going to do with these windows!!

New and Improved End Table

Remember when I posted this?  It was exactly one month ago!  This table has been on my back porch that entire time!  I would look at it, think about it, and sometimes I would actually work on it...

This is the before picture.  I think that I picked it up at a yard sale for $5.  

I told the doors off and all the hardware. The cardboard boxes from moving really came in handy!

I spray painted the primer.  I didn't want to take the time to sand down everything and that would mean I would have to wait for my husband to set up his tools in the shop, I mean garage.  

Here is the finished table all spray painted.  We were off to a good start! 

After three coats of white paint and many storms later, here is the finished product.  (We had so many rain storms this past month, that this table really took a beating!)

After I painted it, I glazed it.  I took the glaze and mixed it with Minwax ebony stain.  I would paint it on and then wipe it off.  It has a weathered, distressed look and I love it!  I will have to do the same thing to my computer desk!

I also replaced the handles.  I like the simplicity of these new ones and they look great with the coloring of the glaze!  I love the table and the way it looks in my house...now I just have to move onto the next project!
